YES, IT IS AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH!

I have to admit that I am sad...

I think it is because I feel a sense of helplessness regarding the events which surround me.

Here in South Africa, I know that I am managed by leadership in government which is imbued with corruption and mismanagement. Our health-care and criminal justice systems are in states of collapse. Crime is out of control. Poverty and unemployment is rife both here and in our neighbourhood countries. Millions of people are dying from the dreaded diseases relating to HIV. Let’s face it – racism is still rife. Our unemployment figures are unacceptable and the future seems bleak.

In the world at large we are facing global recession. People in their millions are losing their jobs and many face uncertain futures. Wars are being fought between super-powers that leave their people mesmerized, directionless and confused.

The environmental factors which affect our planet are hardly being taken seriously. We have global diseases which have no cure – Cancer, Drug-resistant Tuberculosis, HIV and various Influenza strains, just to mention a few. The creativity of our fauna and flora is being destroyed and we are experiencing immense climate change with large-scale ramifications.

The so-called advancement of ‘technology’ is changing the sociology of our planet massively. Is it really ‘advancement’ when people are losing the ability to talk to each other face-to-face and relying on a computer screen for their entertainment and social interaction.

The institutions of positivity, particularly religious structures, have failed their followers in the sense that they distance themselves from the realities of these things which face our people and our planet. Instead, we are encouraged to adopt a mindset which draws distance from these things and to regard these terrible things as part of a greater plan. I can’t accept this.

Although this blog attempts to focus on the positive, I find myself leaning towards the idea that the only way to keep positive is to ‘ignore’ these Macro Factors and get on with my small, simple life. But I simply don’t know how to ignore these things and I can’t endorse it as a healthy alternative.

It seems that the greatest threat to human life is human life itself.!

THE LARGEST BAOBAB IN THE WORLD

This is a picture, taken some years ago of what is now considered the largest baobab in the world. The tree is located about 15km from the town "Duiwelskloof"/"Mojajikloof" in the Northern Province of South Africa. As a child, we visited the old tree regularly. In those days, I don't think it was as well looked after as it is today.

We use to pace out our steps as we walked around the base of the tree. Inevitably it took approximately 100 steps to circumnavigate it. The tree is magnificent: It is an ecosystem for a variety of birds and it has two main "chambers" which are currently used for a bar and a wine cellar. It is a prominent tourist attraction and is well worth a visit if you are passing through the area.
This certainly is one of my best loved trees!

A DOGGIE CUDDLE

There is something about cuddling a little dog that is just sooo therapeutic! A canine cuddle just wipes away the stresses of the day as you take a moment to be with them.

This little dog (his name is Toffee)is often my own 'therapy'. Although he officially doesn't 'belong' to me, he seems to know just when I'm in need of a cuddle. As he takes up my lap invitation, he seems to merge into my arms... We share our heartbeats and our energies are synthesized.

So....have you cuddled your pooch today??
