This is a picture, taken some years ago of what is now considered the largest baobab in the world. The tree is located about 15km from the town "Duiwelskloof"/"Mojajikloof" in the Northern Province of South Africa. As a child, we visited the old tree regularly. In those days, I don't think it was as well looked after as it is today.
We use to pace out our steps as we walked around the base of the tree. Inevitably it took approximately 100 steps to circumnavigate it. The tree is magnificent: It is an ecosystem for a variety of birds and it has two main "chambers" which are currently used for a bar and a wine cellar. It is a prominent tourist attraction and is well worth a visit if you are passing through the area.
This certainly is one of my best loved trees!
